Godfrey is a top prize-winner in the 13th Annual Competition in the Performance of Music from Spain and Latin America (Indiana University), the 2010 Indianapolis Musicale Matinee Graduate Strings Competition, and the 2010 National Association of Arts and Letters Competition (Bloomington chapter). A soloists with numerous orchestras, choirs, and ensembles, he has performed for guitar societies, universities, and concert series throughout North America. His programming interests are particularly centered on original works and arrangements, complemented by technical showcases by composers like Giuliani, Albeniz, Dyens, Lauro, Rodrigo, and others. He has recorded solo works for the Education Embassy of Spain and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. A resident of Florida's Suncoast since 2012, his reputation for handling a diversity of styles has allowed him to enjoy a diversity of musical interests, including performing with Bernadette Peters, American Idol finalist Michael Lynche, legendary Broadway Composer Stephen Flaherty and lyricist Lynn Ahrens, Count Basie Orchestra trumpeter and conductor Byron Stripling, the Andy Pursell Band (opening for Montgomery Gentry), Norwegian Cruise Lines, the national equity Broadway tours of Mean Girls, Chicago, and Charlie and the Chocolate , and regional equity productions of Evita, Ragtime, and the Sound of Music.
Godfrey is the grand prize-winner of the 2010 Boston GuitarFest Composition Competition (Sonatina for solo guitar) and was an honorable mention in the 2019 Austin Classical Guitar Society Ensemble Composition Competition (Tunguska for guitar quartet). Among his most novel works is a single-movement concerto for plectrum banjo known as the the Okeechobee Concerto that has received commissions for full orchestra, symphonic band, guitar ensemble, and piano reduction. Commissions for his original works and arrangements have come from around the world and have included performances in Mexico City at the Manuel Enriquez Foro Internacional de Musica Nueva and Serbia's Guitar Art World Festival.
Godfrey has arranged countless works for the classical guitar medium, particularly for solo guitar, guitar ensemble, and guitar and voice. Notable highlights include:
- Christmas Eve/Sarajevo by the Trans-Siberian orchestra arranged for Guitar Quartet, which has been performed by ensembles worldwide
- Perfect by The Smashing Pumpkins for Guitar Quartet, which was shared on the band's Instagram account and continues to be featured as a top submission in their "Adore my Cover" contest
- Lux Aurumque by Eric Whitacre for solo guitar, which received positive accolade from the composer.
- Yellow by Coldplay cover for string quartet, bluegrass instruments, and soprano, which was chosen by Coldplay Manager and Creative Director Phil Harvey as a top submission in Covernation's Coldplay Cover contest out of over 350 entries worldwide.
Godfrey has been repeat Guest Lecturer with the Guitar Foundation of America International Festival and Competition and has been published in Soundboard Magazine and Classical Guitar Magazine. His principle areas of interest of research include methodologies for composing for the guitar in abstraction especially as it relates to the non-guitarist composer and Metric Dissonance and issues of Meter and Rhythm in the music of Joaquin Rodrigo.
Godfrey serves on the faculty of the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, and Saint Leo University.
